Two thumbs...

Current Reads: Arrow's Fall by Merceds Lackey and Tales of Pain and Wonder by Caitlin R Kiernan
Quote: Wayne, I think we've established that "Ka Kaw Ka Kaw" and "Tukki Tukki" don't work. - Harry Block from the movie Evolution

All I've done lately is watch movies, so here are my reviews of what I've seen this past week.

Domino
A runway model becomes a bounty hunter. Well, sorta.
Keira Knightley plays a young woman looking for a job. Her violent tendencies lead her to a seminar about being a bounty hunter. Naturally she becomes one (wouldn't have much of a movie if she didn't) and the story goes on. Along the way she picks up a television crew who are filming her for a reality TV show and of course things start to go wrong.
This was a very violent movie with a strong female lead. Just the kind of movie for me. It was shot a little strange but the story was pretty good, as were the actors. I wouldn't say that I'm a huge Keira Knightley fan, but I have enjoyed some of the movies she's in, like Pirates of the Caribbean and Love Actually. And for some odd reason, I loved her hair in this movie.

Kingdom of Heaven
A little epic movie that takes place in the time of the crusades.
Once again, tons of violence. Directed by Ridley Scott, the same man that brought us Gladiator. And it did have a sort of Gladiator feel to it. The movie is the story of a young blacksmith who goes to Jerusalem in order to find salvation for himself and his dead wife. He ends up with a whole lot more than he bargained for.
Good movie, a little long, but looking at Orlando Bloom through the whole thing made up for it.

Flightplan
A mother loses her daughter on a flight to America, while the rest of the passengers and crew think that she has lost her mind.
This movie was rather disappointing. It wasn't as exciting as I thought it would be and the plot was somewhat predictable.

Evolution
A really funny movie from 2001. It's a comedy about a meteorite containing alien life that crashes to earth and starts to spread.
This movie is so much fun. It's nothing to be taken seriously and no deep thinking needed. It's full of one liners and physical humor.
I admit, I have seen this before (all the way back in 2001) but, it was the best movie that I watched this week.

my poor car

I smashed the front fender and bumper of my jeep.

I'm not going to write how, because it was so stupid that i'm embarassed to say.

I'm not even going to post a picture because looking at it makes me want to cry.

By next monday my car should be back to normal. Thank God the boy's dad is an auto body repair man, and his mom works in the parts department of a car dealership.

As the boy says, Shit happens and I wasn't hurt and the car can be fixed.

But I still feel like a bumbling idiot.

rolling rolling rolling

Another fun filled weekend.

The boy worked all weekend. Boooo!

However we were able to get in a little fun Saturday night. We went bowling. Now my game was off because of my still sore neck/shoulder. But it was still a lot of fun. And no falling down drunk girlfriends this time. Although there were still a few drunks. After bowling we all decided to go to a diner and eat. So there we were, 6 people at 1 am in a dinner. Two of us were sober (me and the boy), two were mildly intoxicated, and two were drunk. It made for an interesting meal.

Sunday was spent with me being lazy and the boy working. I did however get up enough energy to go do a little shopping and a walk. I also made dinner for myself, the boy and two of our friends. It was a nice quiet weekend.

Joys of the Outdoors

Quote: Camping is nature's way of promoting the motel business. - Dave Barry

Don't mind me... I'm short on sleep, I'm in pain and I'm doped up on Advil.

Ain't camping grand?

So, yes the boy and I decided to go camping this past weekend. Actually we were supposed to go last weekend but it got rained out. So we rescheduled for a few days ago.

All week we can't wait to go. And as the weekend drew nearer we started hearing whispers of a snowstorm. A snowstorm you say? No way! This can not be, I said with a plea. We want to have fun and play in the sun. (Sorry, saw a Seuss opportunity and ran with it.) But yes, the weather man was finally right. After a very mild winter we were finally going to see some snow. But of course, who's going to let a little snow stop us. Certainly not my boyfriend and his friend. ::::: sigh:::::

So the boy spent Saturday packing up the stuff with his friend M while I was at work. When I finished work, I hopped in the shower and then got dressed really warmly. And off we went. The boy and I in his truck pulling my old tracker on a trailer and M in his dad's box truck, with his four wheeler in it. We stopped for dinner at Cracker Barrel and filled ourselves full. Then we stopped at a Walmart to buy some breakfast and I needed a toothbrush (first of many things that was forgotten). So I went to find one and some washer fluid for the boy's truck, while he and M got the food. Big mistake. I didn't pay attention to what they had bought while in line. But when we got to the campsite I realized they had only bought six eggs and a pound of bacon. The boy can eat that by himself. But since they were stuffed when we went shopping they weren't hungry so they didn't think about that. Ugh, men.

Alright, so we are at the campsite. It's way dark already. The boy and I start pulling wood out of his truck to build a fire while M starts pulling stuff out of the box truck so we can sleep in it. The boy throws some gasoline on the fire to "dry out the wood". I go help M lay down the tarp and start to lay down the bedding. The boy throws more gasoline on the fire. M and I get the kerosene heater up and running. The boy throws some kerosene on the fire to "dry it out". M and I hang some blankets along the walls to keep the heat in the truck. The boy throws some more gasoline on the fire. M goes to find a spot to go potty. I start looking through the boys truck for kindling. Find lots... messy boy. Fire burns a little while longer. M goes to bed. The boy and I stare at the fire as it's going out. He and I go to cut some of the long tall dry grass as kindling. Seems like we may have something here. Another jeep drives by. Nice people stop to talk about four wheeling and such. Fire goes out. Boy throws a tire from the woods on fire, along with more gasoline. Nice people in the jeep leave the crazy people trying to make fire. Fire seems to actually be lit. We kick the tire off of the fire. Still lit. Yippie! Boy and I grab lawn chairs and enjoy the fire for a while.

Soon after, we laid some logs around the fire to dry out while we were sleeping and we went to bed. Even though it was a lot warmer in the truck then it had been the last time we went camping, it was still a little chilly. And once again I forgot to bring pillows. It was a restless night, the men kept getting up to pee and I'm a light sleeper. I also had to pee for most of the night but there was no way I was going out into the dark by myself to pee. I've seen way too many horror movies for that, thank you very much. Early in the morning the men got up and went out to restart the fire. I slept in, because even if I don't sleep well, I can still sleep long. I finally got up when the boy said breakfast was almost ready. I get out of the truck to find out that we only had one plate and no utensils.

After eating breakfast with our fingers, the rest of the day seems uneventful. We went four wheeling and at lunch M got a call from his dad, who said it was still snowing here at home and we should probably get home before dark. And so we did.

Of course Monday I woke up with a really sore neck and shoulder from sleeping without a pillow. And I am still suffering the consequences of that one. This morning I woke from a sound sleep to the pain of my shoulder cracking. I could barely move my head once again and ended up taking a hot shower at 5 30 in the morning to try and loosen it up.

Ah yes, the joys of camping.

Side note... was looking for funny quotes for the top of this thing and found these... Quite funny.

Stephen King's Cell

Once again another cheerful and upbeat tale from Stephen King.

:::pauses:::

Uh huh. Not quite.

Tons of people dead within the first ten pages, ahhh, now that's the Stephen King I know and love.

This time the terror does not come from a virus, a killer clown, aliens or even a werewolf. No the end of the world begins with the ringing of a cell phone.
The story is told from the point of view of Clay, an artist, who has just signed a deal for his first comic book. As he stops to get a celebratory ice cream cone, the people around him start going crazy and killing everyone around them. Clay saves the life of Tom and the adventure begins. Along the way they pick up Alice, and begin to understand it was the cell phones that drove people crazy. Clay's only interest is to find his son, who he left with his ex wife. Tom and Alice go with him on this journey. They pick up a few more people while still learning more about the "phone crazies".

Like all Stephen King novels, this one had me glued to my seat, and late back from lunch at work. I love the way he writes; there is just something about his style that draws me into the stories. He writes in a way that makes my imagination so clear that I see the characters in my mind and feel the characters pains and emotions. Of course after reading Cell, I am glad I'm not familiar with the song "Baby Elephant Walk". I developed a strong dislike for the song "Sympathy for the Devil" after reading Dreamcatcher, and to this day can't hear the song without thinking of the book.

All in all, this is not my favorite Stephen Kings novel, but it's damn good.

Of course, I wonder if I'll ever look at my cell phone the same way again.

Guilty Pleasure

Ok, so I admit it. I'm a huge Xena fan.

Yes, so now you all know. I loved the show when it was on TV. And yes, I have most of the episodes on tape.

But just recently I bought season one on DVD. Well, I started watching it and I'm once again addicted. I'm currently watching season two, a gift for Christmas. And I just received season three in the mail today. And what a sinful glee I had.

So if you'll excuse me...

I have episodes to watch.

No Rain

"And I don't understand why I sleep all day, and I start to complain that there's no rain" - Blind Melon

Quote: Procrastinate now! Don"t put it off. - Ellen DeGeneres
Book: The Lock - Steve Altan

So weekend plans got changed. Myself, the boy, and some friends were going to go camping Saturday night into Sunday and go four wheeling on Sunday. Well it started raining half way through Saturday and none of us wanted to sleep in the rain. So we decided to go to karaoke at the one bar/bowling alley around here. Well the bar was closed... power outage. So we drove around for a while trying to find something to do. After finding no bars/bands to go see, we decided to go bowling. We had so much fun. The best part of the night came after we were done bowling and were sitting around talking. We were out with the boy's best friend, (we will call him M) who has known him forever and tells the best stories. I swear these guys were the Dukes of Hazard (Or is that Dukes of Allentown?) We didn't leave the bowling alley until 2 am. The boy was the designated driver, technically so was I since I don't drink, but I didn't want to drive M's car. M was kinda drunk (full motor functions drunk) and so was A, the boy's other friend. M's girlfriend K, however, was falling down drunk. When we got to A's house, K needed to get out of the car to puke. She then started to cry and kept sitting on the wet ground. The boy finally carried her up to A's apartment where she spent a good twenty minutes on the bathroom floor. She kept saying she wanted a bath, so M ran a bath for her and stayed with her while she tried to sober up a little. Myself, the boy and A went into A's living room and fell asleep. At 3:30 the boy woke me up saying they were ready to leave. We all pile back into M's car and as soon as we start moving K promptly pukes on the floor of the car (gag). Around 4 we drop them off and drive tiny distance back to the boy's house. M said he would pick his car up when he woke up. They boy and I took showers and went to bed.

You know, I don't mind people getting drunk. I really don't. But when they can't handle themselves or know when their limits are, that's when I start to get pissed, especially if their drunkenness is affecting my schedule. (Now that I'm done griping)

The next day (Sunday) we didn't get up until noon. We got up ate breakfast and sacked out in the living room. I promptly feel back to sleep while watching Independence Day and snoozed until 4. The rest of the day was just as exciting. Went to dinner with his parents and then relaxed the rest of the day.

Today I went to the dentist and then for a three mile walk in the park. Afterwards I went to the boys and we watched tv and he fell asleep early. What excitement there is around here.

A little late but....

Bloggers (silent) Poetry Reading
In honor of Brigid.. poetry reading by Grace's Poppies

The Stolen Child
by W. B. Yeats

Where dips the rocky highland
Of Sleuth Wood in the lake,
There lies a leafy island
Where flapping herons wake
The drowsy water-rats;
There we've hid our faery vats,
Full of berries
And of reddest stolen chetries.
Come away, O human child!
To the waters and the wild
With a faery, hand in hand,
For the world's more full of weeping than you
can understand.

Where the wave of moonlight glosses
The dim grey sands with light,
Far off by furthest Rosses
We foot it all the night,
Weaving olden dances,
Mingling hands and mingling glances
Till the moon has taken flight;
To and fro we leap
And chase the frothy bubbles,
While the world is full of troubles
And is anxious in its sleep.
Come away, O human child!
To the waters and the wild
With a faery, hand in hand,
For the world's more full of weeping than you
can understand.

Where the wandering water gushes
From the hills above Glen-Car,.
In pools among the rushes
That scarce could bathe a star,
We seek for slumbering trout
And whispering in their ears
Give them unquiet dreams;
Leaning softly out
From ferns that drop their tears
Over the young streams.
Come away, O human child!
To to waters and the wild
With a faery, hand in hand,
For to world's more full of weeping than you
can understand.

Away with us he's going,
The solemn-eyed:
He'll hear no more the lowing
Of the calves on the warm hillside
Or the kettle on the hob
Sing peace into his breast,
Or see the brown mice bob
Round and round the oatmeal-chest.
For be comes, the human child,
To the waters and the wild
With a faery, hand in hand,
from a world more full of weeping than you.
